The Magic Flower: 12 Books in One! This is a book of twelve chapters that were written with children and families in mind! Depending on your circumstances and the age of the children enjoying the story, this one book can be treated as 12 separate books! Talk about the Twelve Days of Christmas! But you won’t find any partridges or gold rings here. You will, however, find stories that reveal the true “magic” of Christmas. I call it magic, but it’s really God’s blessings. Parents, you can read a chapter a night to your child, or you can have your child read one chapter a night to you. Or both!  Puttin’ On the Skits Another way to enjoy The Magic

As a woman with a blog, social media interaction is crucial to me. I meet some really neat people out there! I also meet people who are either utterly clueless or total creepazoids. Because I can’t always tell the difference right away, and because I now utterly refuse to engage with strangers who tell me they want me to be their friend without good reason, I decided to address this situation with some Cheeky Wisdom. Beware the Fishing Chatters! The header image for this post is a compilation of commonly used “icebreaker chats.” I call them “fishing chats.” To anyone who actually wants to befriend someone on social media, this is NOT the way to do it!

In Scripture, faith is defined as follows: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 ESV) Faith involves belief, trust, and follow-through. Assurance comes from God. So if you have real faith, you have a relationship with the Creator of Life, the ultimate One in Charge, the Author of Love and right living, the One who loves you enough to include you in His immediate family. There’s a lot to talk about concerning faith! So I’m definitely going into more detail about what faith is, is not, how you’re involved, and how this relationship-thing works with God. No, I’m not a pastor. I don’t have a ThD (like a

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as: “…the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (ESV). In the previous article, we discussed What Faith Is. That article focused on two keywords: assurance and conviction. In this article, What Faith Is Not, we’ll focus on the keyword “things.” Meaning of Things To the modern American audience, the word “things” opens up our imaginations to envision just about any desire we might have. After all, what is a “thing”? Is a “thing” good or is a “thing” bad? Does it matter? Let’s start with a definition: The Free Online Dictionary has quite a list of “things” that “thing” might mean! Scripture defines faith as: “…the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Let’s talk about faith. I like the ESV translation for this verse because of two keywords that give us an idea what the author of Hebrews 11:1 was writing about: assurance and conviction. The keywords are great, but we also need to use context and the who, what, where, when, why, and how (5W-1H) of reading for meaning. (More on that in a separate post.) Sounds hard, doesn’t it. But if we think of faith as understood by little kids, it helps: “God is real, God said it, I trust God, so I believe Him.” Kids can be brilliant! But we adults are

There are some life lessons that live with you until you die. In my case, wrestling with God at the ripe old age of 18 was mine. This life lesson spun quickly into additional life-long circumstances that included losing ¼ of my face and being declared dead at age 20. But that’s another story. A Little Background My parents were much older than those of most of my peers. The 1960s and 1970s were enough of a culture shock for the world at large, but for my folks, that era left them utterly unprepared how to handle a sweet, creative, and not-quite-conventional little girl who actually danced to the rhythm of her own music. Nearly 11 years my

Stories Here you’ll find stories. Funny stories. Serious stories. Stories with a message. Stories with no intrinsic meaning at all, but we like them anyway. Family stories. Stories from the Bible. These always have a message. Stories I’ve heard from others, authorship only occasionally known to me. How to read stories and informational articles. Remember, I’m also a teacher! How to write stories and informational articles. Again, teacher. Story genres and writing styles. Anything else that can fit into a Stories category! Kat’s Chat You’ll also find posts for Kat’s Chat! After all, those posts all pertain to a story! Yes, you are in the right place for Kat’s Chat! Kat Christian was my pen name for The Magic Flower. Susan Cannon is my pen name for

Disclaimer: I am a cat-person. I have even been called a cat-whisperer. Over my lifetime, I have been “momcat” to around 20 cats. This is to say, I love cats! In spite of being the daughter and sister of veterinarians, Mama didn’t like cats. At all. She was very allergic to them. And she hated the cleanup and upkeep. But on that fateful day, Mama did not mean to squish the kitties! Mama was an elementary school teacher. Back then, husbands and wives could not teach in the same school district. Dad taught high school in downtown Dallas. After a few years teaching in a private school, Mom elected to teach in Mesquite. Each day Mama would get

No one likes to be told what to do. I’m right there with you! But old people like me have a purpose (surprise!) and that purpose is to share our life-learned wisdom with others.  Here in Cheeky Wisdom I will share important information about how life really works wrapped in personal insights and topped with a sprinkling of whimsy. After all, if we can’t laugh at ourselves and our human condition, we are a sad sort indeed. So enjoy the read and have a little fun learning how not to be a dolt like I was. OK? OK. Good.
